If I'm not focusing on color for an outfit, I'm focused on decades. I love the fashion of the 40s and 50s. This outfit is very 40s inspired. In the 40s women's clothing featured squared shoulders, narrow hips, and skirts that ended just below the knee. I love the 40s because even though fabric was rationed due to WWII, women were still able to exhibit style and elegance. 

Note: I said this outfit was INSPIRED by the 1940s not copied. The difference between inspired and copied is that inspired is an essence while copied is a costume. As you can see, this outfit has a 40s feel with modern touches. That is the key when creating a modern vintage look.
